Formally known as the Sears Tower, the Willis Tower is located in the center of Chicago at 233 South Wacker Drive. This one-hundred and eight story building stands at 1,450 feet tall and is the second tallest building in the United States.
The then known Sears Tower was designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill and completed in 1973. Sears tasked them with designing and constructing a building that would allow them to merge their thousands of employees that were dispersed across Chicago under one roof.
The building’s distinctive look was established due to the necessity for a large amount of office space and the architects agreed that the tower would have a large base that would eventually diminish as the building rose.
The Willis Tower boasts large windows and a perfect location with gorgeous views of the Chicago River. In addition, to the ample office space the Willis Tower has an observation deck called the Skydeck. The Skydeck is one of Chicago’s most popular tourist destinations and on a clear day observers can see a score of states and Lake Michigan.
This tower also has a host of amenities offered exclusively for tenants. They include access to the Tower House, which is a lounge and cafe, Tone, the health and fitness club, the Metropolitan club, and of course access to the Skydeck.
Today, the Willis tower is occupied chiefly by United Airlines and for commuters this tower offers a plethora of public transportation as well as parking garages. This neighborhood provides tenants with access to all of the wonderful shops and dining that you would expect from Chicago.
