The '96 Olympics did a lot to put Downtown Atlanta on the map, with what was then a state-of-the-art facility in Turner Field, Centennial Olympic Park and a few surrounding developments. But with the hometown Braves leaving The Ted for the suburban SunTrust Park, Downtown is shifting gears a bit.
Not that Downtown is hurting for an identity. Some 30,000 students still parole its streets from Georgia State University and other schools but it's a business district through-and-though. Home to Coca-Cola. CNN headquarters. Streetcars carrying commuters to and fro.
Downtown's business acumen doesn't mean it has no fun, though. Check out a show at the Eyedrum, take in a Hawks game at Philips Arena, or simply grab a drink with a co-worker at any number of bars in the area.
