Five Points

Little Five Points is a quirky, colorful neighborhood in central Atlanta.

Its name refers to the intersection at the center of the neighborhood. Moreland Avenue forms the north and south points, Euclid Avenue forms the northeast and southwest points. From there, it's debatable whether a "fifth point" exists at all, as Seminole Avenue was initially credited but has since been converted a plaza. Depending on who you ask, McLendon Avenue could rightly be said to form the new fifth point. The more modern appropriation of the name, however, is the convergence of five main MARTA lines.

Little Five Points has been the scene of major, community-led revitalization going back to the 70s, one of the reasons it's known as a progressive, bohemian neighborhood. It features a range of boutique shops and businesses, though larger retail chains have begun appearing in and around Little Five Points.

In 2014, the Little Five Points Business Association created a special district to help fund infrastructure improvements in the area. High on its list is building a parking deck that could be located underneath Bass Recreation Center playing field off Austin Avenue. The project could help sustain the district as an entertainment and cultural hub and help 7 Stages Theatre and Variety Playhouse pull in more patrons, plus attract more restaurants.

As it continues to redefine and reassert itself as one of Atlanta's cultural centers, Little Five Points is a neighborhood to watch.
