Completed in 1973 and formerly known as the U.S. Steel Building, One Liberty Plaza is located on 165 Broadway, New York, NY 10006 by the corner of Broadway between and Maiden Lane and Liberty Street. The structure is quite sizable, features over 2,200,000 square feet in office space for lease, and stands tall at 54 floors. The building is fairly young and underwent a major renovation in 1989 for its lobby and elevator systems, as well as an ongoing renovation on its exterior. The structure sits in the heart of the Financial District and subsequently benefits from some of New York’s best amenities. In addition to hundreds of restaurants in close proximity, 165 Broadway benefits from being close to green, yellow, blue, and brown MTA subway lines. The building is also located in the heart of a central business district, making it ideal for organizations needing closeness to partner firms or clients. Architecturally, One Liberty Plaza sports a black facade consisting of a structural steel frame. It was originally commissioned by U.S. Steel and once housed the headquarters of Merrill Lynch. The building itself serves as a hub for Wall Street activity and serves many functions, including housing the NASDAQ OMX Group’s corporate headquarters and RBC Capital Markets’ trading floors. Major tenants include Goldman Sachs, Bank of Nova Scotia, Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, and certain law and insurance firms. The tower sits adjacent to the World Trade Center and was lightly damaged in the September 11 attacks in 2001. All damage has since been repaired.

Neighborhood

Financial District

Home to many of Manhattan’s major financial institutions, the aptly named Financial District is located towards the southern end of the island. Two of Manhattan’s major streets, Wall Street and Broad Street, can be found in the area. Some must-see places for businesses include the New York Stock Exchange and the Federal Reserve Bank. The South Street Seaport outdoor mall has a number of shops for employees to explore.  Furthermore, Stone Street, a pedestrian-only, cobblestone street is home to numerous restaurant and bar options.  When the weather permits, take advantage of the outdoor seating areas for optimal people-watching.

Attractions in the area include The New York City Police Museum and the Museum of American Finance. Additionally, during times of celebration, the city comes alive for the ticker-tape parade whose route is known as the Canyon of Heroes.

For workers who put in long hours at the office and want to live nearby, the Financial District may be the perfect option for you. In terms of average rent for office space, you will be hard-pressed to beat the Financial District’s $53/sqft.  It’s no wonder companies from a number of industries have joined the likes of Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, and American Express as office neighbors in the Financial District.

Nearby Districts Include: Tribeca, and Chinatown.
